I DID KNOCK FIRST/ Monster narrative

I DID KNOCK FIRST/ MONSTER
It’s a cold dark night. Spooky, creepy and ghostly. My feet sink under the lake’s murky depths. My green scales flick and shiver as it embraces the water’s freezing temperature. My charmeleon scales on my soul case blend with the icy dark water. My body slowly transforms into an centipede sea monster and gasp for air with my scaley, fishy nose under the frozen lake and drift through the water. I observe the nature around me, looking for something to do.

I catch movement in the center of the lake.  It looks like one of those human girls.  I slowly slither my way toward her.  Perched in the centre of a worn out wooden boat, I watch as she carelessly dumps her cigarette into my lake  “Oh no she didn’t!” Body tensing, I start grinding my teeth.  “Who the hell does she think she is?”  What does she think she's doing...polluting my lake...disturbing my home. I’ll make her pay.

Diving under, I slowly ascend toward the hull of the boat.  Stopping within an inch of it, I knock two times. I can see human girl peer over and inspect each side of the boat. She’s peering right at me.  My charmeleon scales hide me from her ugly eyes.  Man humans are hideous!

Human girl sits back and disappears into the boat again. Is she ignoring me? “Oh hell no!”  I knock even louder, banging my scales into the boat.  She bounces up, almost falling into the water.  I can see that she’s scared.  Her body starts shaking and shivering.  “Hello?  Who’s there?” I hear her whisper. It’s hard to tell if she is scared or cold.

She jumps up with her paddle in her hand. She leans over to look at me again but with my dark scaly body I’m hidden from her sight.

She tips her finger into the water - she must be dumb.  Just as fast though, her finger pops back up. She clutches the side of the boat this time.  Yup she’s afraid. Waiting a bit so she could settle, I knock again.  This time louder. Human girl grabs her paddles. “Screw this, I’m out of here” she exclaims.

It’s funny how the human girl frantically tries to paddle toward the shore.  Little does she know I’m gripping the edges of the boat with my arms.  She tries her hardest to get away, but I keep her there until she's exhausted. I can hear her crying and sobbing.  Twenty minutes pass and she’s finally calm.

I slowly descend back into the waters depths.  Coiling my body to spring, I race toward the surface, smashing the boat into pieces. Wrapping my body around her I drag her to my lair at the bottom of the lake.
Later, I find her journal floating on top of the water.  I turn to the last page. I leave a little message for any other revolting humans who want to leave rubbish in my lake….I DID KNOCK FIRST .

What a character says, and the way it is said, reveals something about that person’s make-up, temperament, background and values.  It is often the dialogue that adds depth to the characterisation.

Use the photograph below to practise exploring the use of monologue/dialogue for a character portrait.
Take a few minutes to bring to mind the person in the image below.  Now have them speak in a way that would be very typical of them.

I’m at police training, clutching down in the mud as my fingers slip through.  Attempting to crawl and crawl through the mud. My face is growing redder and redder. My veins are starting to pop out as I feel each one straining creating pressure through my head. I’m frustrated as but I still keep going. I’m never going to give up. I keep chanting to myself I got this! I'm gonna beat everyone. I'm starting to lose my voice. I'm not feeling too confident that I'm gonna get a good placing BUT I know that i'll be the next best cop.

How learning has changed for me ?

I think my learning has changed because I’m more interested in my learning, I’m in control of my learning and I’m engaged with my learning. I believe i’m more engaged and motivated because I get to choose a topic that’s interesting to me as my inquiry focus. I have learnt as a result that you need to be organised. I’m responsible for my learning. I need to make sure that my work is handed in on time. What I mean when I say i’m in control of my learning is that I feel I can work independently. I know what to do and where to go to gather information. I have instant access to google, YouTube and websites. I also like how we can now share our work with my friends, teachers from school and my whanau. My learning can be shared on my blog, my YouTube channel, posters or as a power point presentation. In a funny sort of way, I think my reading and writing and communicating skills have improved and become better because I know that there is a wider audience who will read the work that I create. NO PRESSURE.

CHROMEBOOK ANNOTATED REFLECTION...

Annotated reflection. Part one: Explain to me what learning took place and why was it interesting and different from your other classes (previous years) During the last few years we used to use exercise books to do everything in maths, reading and writing it was boring, students never really like doing there work properly. Most students in this school took about one or more weeks just to finish a story. They had to punctuate start all over and over again. It took way too long. Then eventually something happen The start of this year we were introduced to CHROMEBOOKS!!!, mini laptops. At start of term 1 we were introduced with learning sites from our teacher like math sites, reading sites and other sites to help us get more better at our educational learning .Ever since then this year has been fun pact with e-learning. It’s a lot more interesting with e-learning in our school.chromebooks have made a big change in all our learning.Students are more interested in their learning. They are never bored with these chromebooks. I feel that since we have been an e-learning school more and more students have been coming to our school. With the chromebooks we now know how to make folders, blogs. We can type faster and faster everyday, we make videos of our own. We even have our own google and youtube accounts and if anything happens to the chromebooks or you're somewhere far away then you can still do work on your google account or the sites. E-learning is easier, faster and better for everyone's learning student that learn with e-learning are brainer and love going to school.I really love and enjoy using chromebooks for e-learning and I hope in the future e-learning is activating to all schools.E-learning is Awesome. The end.
